How much does carpet cleaning cost?

Professional carpet cleaning prices in the UK in 2026 per room, per square metre, for stairs, rugs and whole homes, plus office carpets.

Typical prices

Published 2026 UK price guides put a small room (up to about 10 square metres) at around £25 to £40 outside London, and a large lounge at about £40 to £70. Stairs and a landing are usually £25 to £45, and a whole two or three bed home about £100 to £250.

Most carpet cleaners have a minimum charge, often about £50 to £70, so one small room can cost the same as two. London and the South East are higher.

Rugs, stains and extras

Guides put a small to medium rug at around £20 to £40 and a large rug at £40 to £75. Stain treatment or deodorising is often added for about £10 to £30 an area. Sofas and other upholstery are usually priced separately, so ask for them in the same quote.

Office carpets

Offices and shops are usually priced by the square metre. Guides put larger areas at roughly £1.50 to £4 per square metre outside London. Many firms can clean out of hours so the office stays open.

Getting a fair price

Tell the cleaner how many rooms, roughly how big they are, and about any stains or pets. Ask how long the carpets take to dry and whether the price includes moving furniture.
