National 2026 price guides put the UK average for a house cleaner at around £18 to £19 an hour. London and parts of the South East are higher, and many other areas are lower.
What a visit costs
If your clean takes two to three hours, £18 to £19 an hour works out at roughly £36 to £57 a visit, and usually more through an agency. Ask how long they expect the clean to take before you agree a price.
Independent cleaner or agency?
Agencies usually cost a few pounds an hour more. They handle cover when your cleaner is off, and some insure the cleaner for you. An independent cleaner is often cheaper and you deal with the same person each time, so check whether they have their own insurance.
