Published 2026 UK guides vary, but most put a gardener for general maintenance at around £25 to £35 an hour. Checkatrade suggests about £30. London and the South East are often 20 to 30% higher.
Day rates
For a full day, guides put most gardeners at roughly £150 to £300 outside London. A day is a good option for a big tidy up, hedges or clearing an overgrown garden.
What costs extra
Taking away green waste, skip hire and materials such as compost, plants or bark are usually added on top. Ask whether the price includes taking the waste away.
