Hourly rates
Most 2026 UK price guides put a handyman at around £30 to £35 an hour outside London. London and the South East are higher, often £45 or more. Some firms charge more than this, especially agencies that add VAT.
Day rates and call-out charges
For bigger jobs, many handymen charge a day rate. Published guides put this at roughly £190 to £260 outside London. Small jobs often have a minimum charge of around one hour, about £40 to £60, to cover travel.
Prices are usually for labour only. Fixings, paint, seals and parts are added on top, so ask whether materials are included.
Getting a fair price
Group small jobs together, such as a shelf, a dripping tap and a sticking door, so one visit covers them all. A fixed price for the whole list is easier to compare than an hourly rate.
On Taskmarket you list every job once and pros send their price line by line, so you can see what each part costs. You pay through Taskmarket and the pro is only paid once you mark the job complete.
