How much do house removals cost?

Removal company prices in the UK in 2026 for 1, 2, 3 and 4 bed homes, what packing and other extras add, and how to compare quotes.

Typical prices for a local move

Published 2026 UK price guides put a local move with a removal company at roughly £300 to £700 for a one bed flat, £500 to £1,200 for two beds, £700 to £1,800 for three beds and £1,500 to £2,500 or more for four beds. These are for moves of up to about 20 to 30 miles.

London and the South East are dearer. One guide puts a three bed move there at about £1,150 to £2,400.

What adds to the price

Distance and the amount you own matter most. Guides put a full packing service at roughly £150 to £600 on top, plus boxes and materials. Taking furniture apart and putting it back together can add £50 to £200, and difficult access such as stairs with no lift or a long walk from the van can add £50 to £250.

Weekends and the end of the month are the busiest times, and one guide says they can cost 10 to 25% more. A midweek move in the middle of the month is often cheaper.

Office and furniture removals

Office moves are usually quoted after a visit or a video call, because they depend on desks, computers and how much can be moved out of hours. For a single sofa, bed or wardrobe, a man and van is often much cheaper than a full removal company.

Comparing quotes

Check whether each quote includes VAT, packing, insurance and the number of people in the team, so you compare like with like. A fixed price for the whole move is easier to compare than an hourly rate.

On Taskmarket, post your move once with the rooms, big items, floors and photos, and local removal firms and man and van pros send their price. You pay through Taskmarket and the pro is only paid once you mark the job complete.
